I. Thomson later said he regretted his decision to take up so many members of Parliament. On July 11, 1930, he denied a request from J. J. Astor, MP, for a ride in R101, writing, “Both ships are still doing their experimental flights and the only people who should travel on them are experts, with the possible exception of myself.
